Exploratory Science Museum UNICAMP

Extending from an existing round observatory terrace, a diagonal Observatory Terrace Roof was proposed which allows for an open public cultural space: for observation, exploration and discovery. From a sequence of gradually stepped terraces, one rises towards and observes the sky, stars and landscape around, obtaining a 360 degree panoramic view from the highest point on the campus. Below this terrace roof, the building maintains this integration and exploration with nature by being organized by a series of canopied and curving outdoor walkways, courtyards and gardens. Entering into the interior, one discovers the planetary sphere of the Multimedia Exhibition Space, around which the whole museum is arranged. A light mediation system is integrated within a simple and economical steel space-frame structure. The three of the four triangles of the space-frame structure that face towards the sun angles are filled with the reflective panels, to create reflective light baffles.
